Successful continuation of AGBU AVC AI Course in Armenian Schools 11/15/2023

The AGBU Armenian Virtual College (AVC) actively promotes STEM education in Armenian high schools. Since 2022, more than 160 students in 8 schools have studied the basics of artificial intelligence with AVC’s innovative online course.

The "Artificial Intelligence" course was initiated by the AGBU Silicon Valley and sponsored by Synopsys Foundation, to support the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in Armenia and Artsakh. It was developed by UEICT and the Synopsys Armenia Educational Department and was virtualized and hosted on the AVC e-learning platform.

Emphasizing the role of science and technology, AGBU AVC Founding President Dr. Yervant Zorian noted:  "We have started to teach the courses to help the younger generation to use the techniques of AI in every step."

The pilot program was launched in April 2022 in Artsakh, where 12 students from the "Moonq" (We) techno-school successfully completed the first level of the course. Later, the virtual classes came to the high school N 65 in Yerevan and several schools in Gyumri, with around 40 students participating.

In fall of 2023, the Yerevan High School N 112, "Mkhitar Sebastatsi" Educational Complex, YSU STEM High School, and Eurnekian School of Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin also adopted the AI course into their curricula.

"Launching this course has been a big achievement for the development of the IT sphere. Because of this course, I have decided to go deeper into this field and gain more knowledge of AI," mentioned one of the students.

The AI course is offered in hybrid mode, which combines the benefits of both online and in-class learning, providing students with both convenience and flexibility. The online teacher also regularly visits the schools to moderate the practical classes, supervise students’ projects, and offer additional support and guidance alongside their classroom teacher.
